EKP KL-15 Temporary Bypass Harness Installation Instructions

This harness is designed to use switched ignition power from the existing cigarette lighter circuit located in your glovebox fuse panel. You’ll need to run the power cable from the fuse panel to the EKP module. We recommend using trim removal tools for easier installation. Important: This should only be used for temporary testing purposes and not as a permanent solution.

Step 1: Remove the rear passenger seat or rear driver’s seat (depending on RHD or LHD chassis) bolstering covering the EKP module and locate your EKP module. Once you’ve located your EKP module, unplug the white connector going to the EKP module.

Step 2: Open the connector's top and bottom sides by using a small pick tool or small flathead screwdriver to pry apart the plastic clips as shown below:

Step 3: Locate the green wire with the red stripe on it. This is the wire for KL-15, which activates the EKP Module when the ignition is turned on or whenever KL-15 wakes up. Use a small pick tool or de-pinning tool to push down on the metal tab that's securing the wire into the connector. Then gently pull back on the wire with the metal tab still pressed down as shown below:

Step 4: Pry up the plastic on the connector's top to access the metal tab again on KL-15's wire. Then press down on the metal connector once more, while gently pulling the rest of the wire out. Make sure to tape off the KL-15 wire's terminal to avoid the wire touching ground. Grounding KL-15 will shut the car off and prevent ignition from working and may cause damage to other modules.

Step 5: Remove the interior floor trim going from the fuse panel to the rear passenger seat. Depending on your preference for wire routing, you may need to remove the rear passenger seat in order to run the power wire to the EKP module. Then install the new KL-15 wire / terminal into the corresponding EKP connector. Then run the power wire to the fuse panel in the glovebox. Use the provided zip ties where necessary.

Step 6: Access your glovebox fuse panel and locate the 20-Amp fuse for your cigarette lighter. Pre-2007 models and up to a production date of 09/2007, this is fuse #30. Models with a production date after 09/2007, this will be fuse #8. Remove the 20-Amp fuse from that circuit and install it in the empty space of the fuse holder for the power wire coming from the fan. Then plug the fuse holder into the cigarette lighter circuit and verify that the fan now powers on when the ignition turns on and turns off when the ignition is off. Alternatively, you can use any other fuse that turns on with the ignition and turns off when the ignition is off regardless of amperage. Once you verify that it is working as expected, re-install your interior trim pieces and re-install the rear seat bolstering and you’re good to go!
