F10 Top Hat to Fuel Pump Harness Install Guide
The following guide is for installing an Arc Terminator in-tank F10 / F11 / F07 top hat to low pressure fuel pump wiring harness. The following installation involves accessing the fuel tank which could lead to potential exposure to harmful and explosive fuel vapors. Improper installation could cause risk of fire or damaged vehicle parts. Performing the installation with an empty fuel tank or tank below 1/8 full is strongly recommended. Always have a fire extinguisher nearby when working with the fuel system. Make sure all fuel-safe PPE is worn during the process. Professional installation is required!
Step 1: Disconnect the negative battery terminal on your vehicle for safety. Release excess fuel pressure from the low pressure system prior to removing the top hat and fuel pump assembly. Remove your rear passenger seat and access the fuel pump top hat. Once you've accessed the top hat, remove the top hat from the vehicle and away from the fuel tank. Be sure to quickly clean up any excess fuel that may drip from the fuel pump assembly.
Step 2: Use an 11/16" drill bit to drill the hole required for the electrical bulkhead connector. A step drill bit may be preferred as it acts as a pilot hole prior to the 11/16" bit. After the hole is drilled, remove up any loose plastic shavings from the top and bottom of the top hat and surrounding area. Do not allow for the plastic shavings to enter the fuel tank.
Step 3: Insert the electrical bulkhead connector onto the top hat where you drilled the hole for it. Make sure that the rubber washer is installed on the bottom side of the top hat. Install the nylon nut on the bottom of the bulkhead connector and tighten the connector into place. The fitment should be very snug, but make sure not to overtighten the connector or it will crack.
Step 4: Feed the power and ground wires with the exposed terminals through the bulkhead connector and push them through the bulkhead grommet. Take your time with this process as you do not want the terminals to bend.
Step 5: Feed the wires through the top nut of the bulkhead connector then feed the wires through the DTP connector's weather seal in the order shown below.
Step 6: Before installing the terminals into the DTP connector, make sure that the gap in the terminals are both facing down. This allows them to "snap" into the DTP connector. Make sure that the red and black wires both match up to the same position as the red and black wires in the EKP to top hat harness. Mixing the wires up will cause the fuel pump and EKP module to fail.
Step 7: Insert the orange terminal retaining clip into the DTP connector to secure the terminals in the connector as shown below. Then insert the orange weather seal into the back of the connector. Make sure that both the terminal retaining clip and weather seal are flush with the DTP connector.
Step 8: Pull the wires through the bulkhead connector until there's about 2" of wire between the top of the bulkhead connector and the DTP connector. Adjust the length of the exposed wires as needed. Then tighten the top nut of the bulkhead connector. Do not overtighten the top nut.
Step 9: Run the wires along the fuel pump hanger assembly as the original wires were and zip tie them into place. Do not overtighten the zip ties as they can damage the wires and the fuel hose. Then connect the fuel pump connector to the low pressure fuel pump. Double check that the polarity of all wires from the EKP module to the low pressure fuel pump is correct prior to connecting the harness to the EKP module.
Step 10: Reassemble the fuel pump hanger assembly and make sure that the top hat is sealed properly on the fuel tank. Prior to complete reassembly (seats etc...) make sure to prime the fuel pump before starting the vehicle to ensure that all connections are properly made and no errors are present. Once the install has been successfully performed, reassemble the remaining interior parts.
